Stephanie Long, JD
Senior Business Advisor & Managing Partner

Stephanie Long founded Business Innovation Group to empower businesses to grow through insightful and powerful legal and tax consulting. As a small business owner herself, Stephanie understands the unique challenges facing business owners in our rapidly changing, dynamic economy.

“When I graduated from law school, I very much wanted to find a path that would enable me to utilize my analytical skills to make a difference in people’s lives. At BIG, I get to do that. I find it incredibly rewarding to build relationships with business owners and witness the impact my legal assistance has on their businesses and their families.”

Stephanie and her husband have lived in Denver for over twenty years and feel privileged to be rooted in such a vibrant, growing community.

“Denver has really emerged as one of the best places to live in the country, particularly in terms of two of my absolute favorite things; live music and vegetarian restaurants.”

Stephanie has a broad legal background, demonstrating particular success in tax planning, IRS and state agency resolution, asset protection and real estate investing.     

David Long
Business Advisor & Accountant

Before joining the firm, David spent 20 years as a business manager and 5 years as a tax accountant. David has always been fascinated by numbers and analysis. As a child, David figured-out the mathematical calculations of baseball player’s statistics printed on the back of baseball cards.

 

Today, David applies his analytical aptitude to the nitty gritty of accounting; financial statements, state and federal tax returns and cash flow projection. David’s primary focus is being a business advisor to the firm’s clients.

“What I find most rewarding is solving problems and helping our clients to reach their goals.”

​Outside the office, David is committed to both music and advocating for the rights of animals. He’s a gardener, a philosopher and a devoted husband to his wife, Stephanie.

Annie joins Long Law Group after a four-year stint as the Business Ops Manager for Heritage Farms. As a previous small business owner, she knows the importance keeping the books up-to-date and accurate so they are a valuable tool for management and insight. When not in the office, you will find Annie enjoying the outdoors with her husband and two girls.

  Karson Mayer
  Office Manager
   Director of First Impressions

Karson’s roots are in the Midwest, where she grew up in Missouri, and earned her Fine Arts and Education degrees in Illinois. She’s been much of a nomad in her adult life, but now is incredibly grateful to call Colorado her home. Our clients and professionals alike benefit from her creative problem solving and communication skills.

 

Ms. Mayer hasn’t yet shaken the travel bug, so you can find her catching flights whenever possible. She can also be found camping, hiking, and attending live music events, in her time outside the office. 

  Janny Arbaugh
  Bookkeeping Assistant
  

Janny joined Business Innovation Group, LLC in December 2019 as a part-time bookkeeping assistant.  She brings accounting and analytical skills from her prior internal audit and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance roles. 

 

On weekends, she and her husband are busy cheering for their daughter and her softball team at competitive softball tournaments.

Peter McFarland, JD LLM
Senior Business Advisor & Attorney

Peter was driven to practice in the field of tax law, because he wanted to stand at the intersection of life’s most important events and help clients navigate through them.

 

“Every day, I come to work and help people pay for a first home, plan for retirement, start a business, pay for a child’s education, and/or contribute to or even found a charitable organization. I’m grateful for both the opportunity and the responsibility.”

 

Peter earned both his Juris Doctorate and Master of Laws in Taxation from The University of Denver. He has successfully counseled clients through tax litigation, estate planning, business entity formation and asset protection. He also regularly speaks to business associations, investors and other attorneys on the complexities of tax law. 

 

When he’s not at work, Peter enjoys spending time outside in beautiful Colorado, walking his dogs, hiking with his wife and taking photographs.

Brian Woldt, CPA
Business Advisor &
Tax Strategist  

Brian thrives on finding financial solutions to the diversity of challenges facing business owners. After a brief flirtation with a career in medicine, Brian fell in love with helping people through accounting in his very first accounting class.

Since joining the Business Innovation Group, Brian has consistently demonstrated value in his knowledge of construction, agriculture and real estate development businesses.

Of the team, Brian says, “I work with great individuals at this firm, who always have the client’s best interest at heart.”

The consultation Brian provides, is rooted in more than a decade of preparing tax returns, analyzing profit and loss statements and mitigating tax obligations.

 

After he leaves the office, he tackles his second job; raising four children with his wife Kelly. With any time that remains, he enjoys sneaking out to the golf course and rooting on the Minnesota Vikings.

  Stacy Riley
  Marketing Manager
   Creative Communicator

Stacy earned a B.A. in Psychology, after which she spent a decade as a business owner in the performing arts as an on-camera actor, vocalist, bandleader, and voice coach. When she decided it was time for a transition to a new industry, fortune brought Ms. Riley to Business Innovation Group, LLC, where she started out as Office Manager. However, it didn't take long to recognize Stacy's numerous creative skills, and she was soon promoted to Marketing Manager. Stacy truly enjoys using her video production background, social media savvy, and multi-dimensional communication skills to bring greater market awareness to the many services we provide.

 

During her off-hours (what are those?), Stacy still sings for private events and sometimes appears in TV commercials and industrial video. She also loves venturing out on the town to support her fellow performing artists and heading outdoors to explore the vast natural wonders of this exceptionally beautiful state.

  Rocky Michaelson
  CPA Intern
   Tax Preparation Assistant

Rocky is currently enrolled at the University of Colorado at Denver, majoring in accounting in pursuit of becoming a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Michaelson's goal is to provide the most optimized and efficient tax strategies to clients.

 

In his spare time, Rocky loves being physically active and helping counsel the youth in his area. Most importantly, however, he treasures spending time with his friends and family.

  Charlie Long
  Office Mascot
   Morale Manager

Charlie joined the firm in spring of 2019. He has since brought smiles and good spirits to all who enter the office. As the official office wookiee, his objectives are to greet guests, chew computer wires, and bound joyfully up and down the hallways.
